The Steve Jobs Corollary: Why Apple Will Announce...
This is pure speculation. I’m willing to stipulate that up front. But I think it’s pretty well-founded speculation, because it’s based on two nearly undeniable facts:
1: Steve Jobs is a very shrewd businessman.
2: Steve Jobs is ruthless.
There’s also an important corollary to these two facts:
Steve Jobs Corollary: You don’t F-ck Stevie, Stevie F-cks You. That...

My Cross-Cultural Solutions Experience in Moshi,...
My Cross-Cultural Solutions Experience in Moshi, Tanzania Before embarking on my globe spanning 4-month adventure I decided that I wanted to spend at least a few weeks of my trip doing some international service work. My original intention was to find opportunities involving clean drinking water; I’m convinced that providing adequate drinking water for the world’s rapidly expanding...

Uh-Oh
Due to insanely excessive data usage (100+ MB in the past week), I have had to shut down all data roaming on my phone. So, my ability to blog/tweet/etc will be very limited until next month.

Safari
Before coming to Tanzania I only had one goal: go on safari. So I was ecstatic when two of my fellow CCS volunteers said they wanted to go on a safari over my first weekend. I’ve been very pleased with our decision. The...

Corporal Punishment in Tanzania
It has been many decades since corporal punishment was considered an effective or appropriate means of disciplining kids in the US (can you say: “lawsuits”?), but not all other countries are as advanced (read: litigious) as we are. I was reminded of this during my CCS orientation here in Tanzania, when we were told that those of us volunteering in an educational capacity should expect...

Moshi, Tanzania (part 1)
The first few days at the CCS (Cross Cultural Solutions) home base in Moshi have gone by quickly. Everything so far has been free time and orientation, so I’m not sure exactly what my days at placement will be like, but we’ll know soon enough. I’ve gone from being somewhat concerned to cautiously optimistic about my placement at Tanzanian juvie. I think it will be fun and...

ZRH
I left Shanghai yesterday afternoon, after a great 10-day sojurn. I’m sure that I pushed my hosts, Scott & Kate, to the limits of their hospitality, but it was great to catch up with them and it’s always nicer to stay at an apartment in a residential neighborhood than in some lame hotel or hostel. Obviously it also helped keep my budget in check, despite going out for some truly...
